PARKING CHARGES INTRODUCED IN GUARDAMAR

Workers were busy last week installing parking ticket vending machines for 850 parking spaces close to the beaches in Guardamar del Segura

Workers were busy last week installing parking ticket vending machines for 850 parking spaces close to the beaches in Guardamar del Segura which are to be charged for from 7 July.

Mainly affected are residents of the urbanization Benamor, who watched as workers set up the ticketing machines in ‘the blue area’ occupied by the streets closest to the coast.

Many local residents have complained that they will no longer be able to park vehicles close to their homes which they consider to be a security risk as they will not be able to look outside to check them. Some have said that they will refuse to pay the charges.

They predict that the lack of free parking at the coast will simply move drivers to other areas.

The blue area map goes from la Avenida Ingeniero Cordoniú, it continues along la Avenida de la Libertad and Cervantes up to Benamor urbanization. Almost the entire coastline will now be regulated.

This is the second town in the Vega Baja, after Callosa de Segura, that has implemented such restrictions.

I love Guardamar and go there on my bike, so these parking charges won't affect me, but knowing the Spanish, who avoid Toll roads like the plague, won't be very happy. Also the flocks of Africans trying to sell you "tat" every 30 seconds doesn't help. Are the Council trying to kill the place off ?

I cycled past yesterday (10th July) and all the blue bays were full....only because the ticket machines are not working yet !
