MABS
It is now almost a year since MABS Cancer Support Group opened their Information Centre in Mazarrón. During that time their presence has been an overwhelming success, so much so that they can no longer operate effectively from their present location or manage their busy equipment loan service from its location elsewhere on Camposol. It was obvious from both a financial and practical perspective that the situation needed to change.
It was a tall order to find another location that could accommodate all of their requirements: private counselling space, equipment store and office facilities but, after an intensive search, they were delighted to be offered a Neptuno villa on sector B on a long-term rental. The new MABS Centre is on Avenida de los Covachos and is ideally situated to serve the patients and families of MABS Mazarrón. MABS is extremely grateful to the owners, who have been so generous, helpful and supportive.
A Grand Opening is planned for Saturday, 3 November at 12 noon, combined with a Winter Fair, and all are welcome to attend. MABS volunteers and helpers have rolled up their sleeves to complete the repairs and decorating needed to get the new MABS Centre ready in time. Discussions are taking place with the Camposol Gardening Groups to help get the garden cleared and a new path laid. “We’re naturally very excited about this new stage in the development of services to everyone affected by cancer in the Mazarrón area” remarked MABS Co-ordinator, Zue Burgess. In addition to the advice and information that is currently available, the new Centre will provide private counselling services and house a comprehensive range of hospital equipment which is used to assist patients who are being nursed at home.
