MAZARRON WIN 2-0 AT ATHLETICO PULPILENO

Mazarron came into this game with four regular players missing and took time to settle. Both teams had difficulty in retaining possession in the early stages, it was Mazarron who were first to show anything of note in the 8th minute when Perico shot from the edge of the box straight at the keeper.

Pulpi had two corners but both were easily cleared. Ruben was put through by Pollo in the 15th minute, his attempt on goal went out for a corner off the keeper.

Barrachina was put through a minute later but shot wide and shortly after Ruben tried to chip the keeper but didn’t get any height on it, Pulpi then had two more corners followed by a free kick which Ikea in the Mazarron goal pushed round the post for another corner. In the 35th Perico directed a header straight at the keeper, this was followed by Cecilio having a great chance in the box but sliced his shot wide.

Half time: 0-0

Perico was replaced by Panocha and this had an immediate effect in giving Mazarron some width down the left side. Pulpi had a chance from close range in the 48th minute but the shot went wide. Mazarron had a good chance when the ball fell to Ruben on the edge of the box but he blasted his effort wide. Ruben was then put through by Panocha but once again shot wide.

Pulpi came back into the game and on 63 minutes Diego did well to get his head on a goal bound Pulpi effort and put it out for a corner, a minute later saw Panocha clear the ball off the Mazarron goal line. On 65 minutes Mazarron captain Diego was replaced by jose.

Mazarron were by now getting more on top and had several chances that came to nothing. On 74 minutes Mazarron finally scored when Ruben was put through by Cecilio. This was followed by both José and Beaza shooting wide.

Mazarron keeper Ikea made two fantastic saves in the 85th minute, Mazarron then scored their second goal when slick passing by Matt, Cecilio & Jose resulted in Cecilio firing in from the edge of the box. Alvaro came on to replace Cecilio in the 87th minute. Pupli came close in the dying seconds but Pollo cleared the ball off the line.

The officials for this game were excellent and no Mazarron players were booked.

Mazarrón Lions collecting food and presents for children in the Christmas run-up

THE LIONS Club of Mazarrón Bahia have had a busy run-up to Christmas, joining in with the relief efforts to ensure that local families can also enjoy the festive season and their children not suffer too much from the economic situation in which so many families find themselves this year.

The Lions have been participating in two main programmes: the Carrier of Happiness appeal, which aims to collect `presents for local children and were able to bring some happiness to 225 children with presents being given to Mazarron Social Services and Cruz Roja for the children they support. The Lions will also be delivering a further 100 presents with the help of Papa Noel at a special event on the 22nd December.

The second project was “ Operational Kilo “ held in the Consum supermarket on Camposol Sector B. This aimed to collect dry foodstuffs which can be distributed to local families in need and the Lions were delighted and grateful with the public support of everyone with both these appeals. Cruz Roja en Mazarron were thrilled that we were able to give several deliveries of food to help in their support of the families of the Mazarron area.

The Lions also had an urgent appeal for milk and juice during December and it was decided that The Lions Club would purchase these necessary items to help in their support in these difficult times. Cruz Roja are always grateful for any non- perishable items.
Moving forward into 2013, the Lions will be holding an evening of entertainment with a Country and Western Theme Night dancing to the fabulous Brady Bunch. Tickets are available now for the evening at Marano´s Restaurante on Friday 25th January 2013.

MABS

It is now almost a year since MABS Cancer Support Group opened their Information Centre in Mazarrón. During that time their presence has been an overwhelming success, so much so that they can no longer operate effectively from their present location or manage their busy equipment loan service from its location elsewhere on Camposol. It was obvious from both a financial and practical perspective that the situation needed to change.

It was a tall order to find another location that could accommodate all of their requirements: private counselling space, equipment store and office facilities but, after an intensive search, they were delighted to be offered a Neptuno villa on sector B on a long-term rental. The new MABS Centre is on Avenida de los Covachos and is ideally situated to serve the patients and families of MABS Mazarrón. MABS is extremely grateful to the owners, who have been so generous, helpful and supportive.

A Grand Opening is planned for Saturday, 3 November at 12 noon, combined with a Winter Fair, and all are welcome to attend. MABS volunteers and helpers have rolled up their sleeves to complete the repairs and decorating needed to get the new MABS Centre ready in time. Discussions are taking place with the Camposol Gardening Groups to help get the garden cleared and a new path laid. “We’re naturally very excited about this new stage in the development of services to everyone affected by cancer in the Mazarrón area” remarked MABS Co-ordinator, Zue Burgess. In addition to the advice and information that is currently available, the new Centre will provide private counselling services and house a comprehensive range of hospital equipment which is used to assist patients who are being nursed at home.
